The Workshop on Thinking Skills

Why should we learn how to think?
Ideas – how to get them and how to get many different ideas.
Creating choices and learning to choose ideas.
Understanding how to ask the right questions.
Thinking logic, clarity, and sequence.
Getting out of my own mind and jumping into someone else’s shoes.
Positive, negative and interesting.
Each of the skills we learn teaches us in the long run how to handle any information
that comes our way.

Generating Ideas

The first step is to generate ideas within any context. We then learn how to approach
and solve problems. Every problem has an obvious solution. But we learn in this unit how to go beyond the obvious and generate more choices. This allows us to solve problems more effectively.

Skill of questioning
The skill of questioning is an extremely important learning tool. It is often more important to ask the right question than to have a correct answer. Questions keep us thinking. They open avenues to explore. They coax us to look at the familiar differently.
They challenge assumptions. They teach us never to accept any information at face value.

How to research
We learn how to research and organize information logically, how to present data sequentially and with clarity. This makes us effective in the skill of recording facts.

Putting ourselves in someone else’s shoes
By putting ourselves in someone else's shoes when we think, we take a look at
cross- disciplinary learning. This helps in seeing a larger picture and identifying the consequences of executing ideas.

How to Judge Ideas
Finally, we learn how to judge ideas. We learn how to explore the positive, negative and interesting aspects of an idea before we execute it.
