| The Workshop on Hierarchical Communication |
| |
| Does any organization really want teams of ‘yes men’? Obedience has little or no value in
the work place. Intelligence and the ability to apply this replace obedience. The individual who understands and
negotiates parameters and contexts, establishing meaningful links with hierarchies and across functions is the
potential leader an organization will look out for. Communicating across hierarchies requires an insight into receiving
briefs, understanding them, generating effective systems of executing them, applying the systems, and documenting
outputs with follow-up plans. How we communicate this process with intelligence determines our hierarchical relationships.
Working within and with a hierarchy is, first and foremost, about understanding the value of one’s own contribution
to the larger picture. The next step is to place one’s output in context. |
